My name is Jimmy Reid. I was always the one with a compact camera growing up but can always remember being frustrated with the limitations of the format. It wasn’t until l decided to leave my life behind and go travelling for 15 months in Asia that I invested in a half decent camera and found my love for photography. Upon returning to Edinburgh I decided to study photography and since studying I realised that you need to embrace all types of photography and not confine yourself to a single genre.
This year my work was selected from 105,692 images entered from 182 countries in the Sony World Photography Awards when I had an image commended in the architecture category and another shortlisted in the motion category. This is my greatest achievement to date and I hope it’s a sign of what is to come in the future.
